Tips For Creating Your Own Gift Basket
|
1. Buy your gift items before choosing your basket
- You don't want your basket to be too full or too empty so assemble your items before selecting a container.
Choose a couple of tall, heavier items to place towards the back of the basket for back support and work your way towards the front with smaller items.

2. Choose a container
- A basket with or without a handle is nice. Pick an appropriate size, color and theme, with enough depth to fill the bottom.
Even though there are no standards, we categorize containers to
small(9"-13"), medium(13"-15") and large(15" +) based on their length.
- Small Baskets can approximately hold 8 to 12 items
- Medium Baskets can approximately hold 10 to 15 items
- Large Baskets can approximately hold 15 to 20 items
Just because it's called a gift basket, it doesn't mean that you have to use a basket as your container. Here are some of
popular containers that could serve the purpose: Metal buckets, big bowls, pretty pottery, Magazine holders and for children gift baskets: plastic sand buckets
and other brightly colored toys, like dump trucks.

3. Use fillers at the bottom of your gift basket
- Use crumpled paper or fabric to make your gift baskets look fuller. Fill the half bottom of your gift basket with filler to prop up the gift items for
better presentation.
You can use something decorative like shredded green and red papers for a Christmas gift basket or crumpled up comic book pages for a baby basket.

4. Back support for your gift basket
- Place taller and heavier items at the back of your basket to create a wall and support for other gift basket items, then work your way up to the front by
placing medium and smaller size items.

5. Wrap up with cello and bow
- Clear cellophane bags made for baskets are usually available at craft shops or dollar stores near the wrapping paper.
If using a bag, gather at the top of the basket and tie with a ribbon. Leave some of the plastic fluffed out above the ribbon.
Add a pretty bow. Tape the bottom of the bag tight to the basket if it tends to stick out and you're done!
